The Faroe Islands in a week: a 7-day itinerary
A 7-day itinerary around the Faroe Islands: Vágar, Mykines, Drangarnir, Tórshavn, Eysturoy, Kallur lighthouse and a spare day for bad weather.

With a week you can see the best of the Faroe Islands without rushing and with a spare day for when the weather does not cooperate. The plan: two nights on Vágar and five in Tórshavn, with a hire car.
Day 1: arrival on Vágar
- The lake above the ocean (Trælanípa). See the guide.
- Gásadalur and Múlafossur at sunset. See the guide.
- Night on Vágar.
Day 2: Mykines
- Ferry from Sørvágur and a day on the puffin island, with a mandatory guide in season. See the guide.
- Night on Vágar.
Day 3: Drangarnir and on to Tórshavn
- A guided hike of about 5 hours to Drangarnir, or a boat trip. See the guide.
- In the afternoon, on to Tórshavn. From here, every night in the capital.
Day 4: Tórshavn and Kirkjubøur
- The capital on foot: Tinganes, the old quarter, Skansin. See the guide.
- Kirkjubøur in the afternoon.
Day 5: Eysturoy and northern Streymoy
- Gjógv, passing Slættaratindur. See the guide.
- Saksun or Tjørnuvík. See Saksun.
- If there is time, the boat trip to Vestmanna. See boat trips.
Day 6: the northern islands and Kallur lighthouse
- To Klaksvík through the Norðoy tunnel, the ferry to Kalsoy and the hike to Kallur lighthouse. See the guide.
Day 7: spare day and home
Use it to go back to whatever the weather kept you from seeing or for one more island: Sandoy, through the subsea tunnel from Streymoy, or Nólsoy, by ferry from Tórshavn. Head back to Vágar with plenty of time for your flight.
Tolls on this route

Frequently asked questions
How many days do you need to see the Faroe Islands?
A week is ideal: you see the must-see places at a relaxed pace and have room for bad weather, which can cancel boats and hide the views in fog.
What do you need to book in advance?
The car, accommodation, the Mykines ferry and fee, the guided hike to Drangarnir and boat trips. They all have limited places in summer.
