Where to stay in the Faroe Islands: hotels, houses and camping
Hotels in Tórshavn and outside the capital, houses and apartments, guesthouses and campsites. Which area to choose as a base and why it pays to book early.

The Faroe Islands have few beds for the summer demand, so rule number one is simple: book early, especially if you are travelling from May to August.
Which area to choose as a base
- Tórshavn: the most practical. It is at the centre of the road network, has most of the hotels and restaurants, and from here you can drive to almost anywhere in a day.
- Vágar: handy if you arrive late or leave early, or if you are going to Mykines, Drangarnir and the lake above the ocean.
- Eysturoy and the north: quiet villages for those looking for nature and scenery.
Hotels
There are no 5-star hotels: the best are 4-star and almost all of them are in Tórshavn.
In Tórshavn (according to Visit Faroe Islands):
- 4-star: Hotel Føroyar (on a hill, with a spa), Hotel Hafnia (in the centre), Hotel Brandan and Hilton Garden Inn (both opened in 2020).
- 3-star: 62N Hotel City Centre and Hotel Tórshavn (harbour views).
- Small and charming: Havgrím Seaside Hotel (14 rooms, by the sea) and Nólsoyarstova (a historic 18th-century building).
- Simple: Hotel Djurhuus, by the harbour.
Outside the capital:
- Vágar: Hotel Vágar, a 5-minute walk from the airport.
- Klaksvík: KG Hotel and Hotel Klaksvík.
- Eysturoy: Hotel Runavík and Gjáargarður Guesthouse, in the village of Gjógv.
- Suðuroy: Hotel Tvøroyri.
Houses, apartments and guesthouses
A very good option for families and groups, and for staying in small villages where there are no hotels. As well as the usual platforms, there are local websites such as vert.fo (houses and apartments on most islands) and booklocal.fo. Guesthouses and B&Bs offer a more personal touch.
Camping
- Most campsites are open from April to October. Camping Sandur and Giljanes Camping (Vágar) are open all year.
- There are campsites on almost every island: Tórshavn, Vestmanna, Gjógv, Eiði, Æðuvík, Sandur, Mykines and others.
- Some take only tents and others only motorhomes. Check prices and facilities on camping.fo.
- Bring wind and waterproof gear, and take your rubbish with you.
