Boat trips in the Faroe Islands
The best boat trips in the Faroe Islands: the Vestmanna bird cliffs, the Drangarnir sea stacks, Mykines and speedboat outings.

Many of the most impressive landscapes in the Faroe Islands are best seen from the sea: cliffs hundreds of metres high, caves, sea stacks and seabird colonies.
Vestmanna bird cliffs
The country’s classic boat trip. From the harbour at Vestmanna, about 40 minutes’ drive from Tórshavn, the boats sail beside huge cliffs full of seabirds and slip into crevices and caves.
- Duration: about 2 hours on the boat.
- Season: roughly April to October, with more departures in summer.
- Birds: the best time to see them is May to August.
Drangarnir
The most famous sea stacks in the islands, next to the islet of Tindhólmur. On land you can only reach them on a 5-hour guided hike; by boat it is easier. Several companies offer it, including Bluegate, Seatravel, Hiking.fo and Guide to Faroe Islands. More details on our Drangarnir page.
Mykines
The ferry to Mykines is a beautiful trip in itself, and on the island you will see puffins in summer. Remember there is a fee and a mandatory guide: we explain it in Mykines.
Other trips at sea
- Speedboats (RIB): to see the coast at full speed.
- Sailing: between fjords and cliffs.
- Fishing: fishing trips on the open sea.
- Kayaking: to explore the coast up close.
