Privacy and cookies
Who is responsible for The Faroe Islands Guide, what data we collect, which analytics we use and how to exercise your rights.
Who runs this site
Claytown Investment Properties S.A. Calle 58E, Obarrio, PH Office One, office 1416, Panama City, Panama. Email: info@thefaroeislandsguide.com
The Faroe Islands Guide is an independent guide written by Sanna and Felo. It is not the official tourist board of the Faroe Islands.
What data we collect
- If you email us: your email address, your name and whatever you tell us. We use them only to reply to you or, if you ask us to, to tell you the dates of our group trips.
- If you subscribe to the newsletter: your email address, your name if you give it, the topics you choose and the page you subscribed from. We use them only to send you the newsletter on those topics. To send it we use Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, a French company), which processes this data on our behalf. We ask you to confirm your subscription from your inbox, and every email includes a link to unsubscribe.
- Visitor statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which measures visits in aggregate without cookies and without identifying you. We see data such as the most read pages, the approximate country of origin and the type of device.
- Technical server logs: the hosting provider may log technical data, such as the IP address, to serve the website and protect it from abuse.
We do not sell your data or share it with third parties for advertising.
Why we can use it (legal basis)
- Newsletter: your consent, which you give by ticking the box and confirming from your inbox. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.
- Emails you send us: replying to what you ask, which is our legitimate interest and, if you ask about a trip, a step before a possible contract.
- Statistics and technical logs: our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are read, keeping the website running and protecting it from abuse. They do not identify you.
Maps
Some pages show an OpenStreetMap map. The map loads from the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s servers (United Kingdom), so your browser connects to them and they receive your IP address, as with any website. Their privacy policy applies. The map does not set advertising cookies.
Where data is processed
- Claytown Investment Properties S.A. is in Panama, outside the European Union. When we process data about people in the EU, we apply the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- Brevo stores newsletter data in the European Union.
- Cloudflare (United States) hosts the website and measures visits. It is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which allows data to be sent to it from the EU.
Cookies
This website does not set its own analytics or advertising cookies. That is why we do not show you a cookie banner.
The only thing we store in your browser (in local storage, not in a cookie) is whether you have already closed the newsletter invitation or subscribed, so we do not show it to you again. It does not leave your device and you can delete it from your browser settings.
Affiliate and external links
Some links are affiliate links. When you click them you leave this website, and the destination company (for example, a booking platform) may set its own cookies to know that you came from here. That company’s privacy policy then applies. More details in how we fund the guide.
How long we keep data
Emails are kept for as long as the conversation lasts and the time needed to deal with your request. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You can ask us to access your data, correct it, delete it, object to its use or restrict it, and to receive it in a portable format. Write to us at info@thefaroeislandsguide.com.
If you live in the European Union and believe we have not handled your request properly, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country; in Spain, that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).
Changes
If we change this policy, for example when we add new tools, we will update this page and its date.
