Kallur lighthouse at the northern tip of Kalsoy

The red and white Kallur lighthouse stands at the northern tip of Kalsoy, a long, narrow island in the northeast. It was built in 1927, and the view from the headland, with the cliffs dropping vertically, is one of the most spectacular in the country.

How to get there

  1. Drive to Klaksvík. From Tórshavn you go through the Eysturoyartunnilin and the Norðoyatunnilin, both with tolls (see the tunnel prices).
  2. Ferry to Kalsoy from Klaksvík, with or without a car. Car spaces are limited in high season.
  3. Drive to Trøllanes, the last village on the island, where the hike starts.

Fee

200 DKK per adult and 100 DKK for young people aged 13 to 17; children under 13 go free. You pay by card on site and it does not include a guide.

The hike

From Trøllanes the path climbs through pastures to the headland. It is not technical, but the last stretch is narrow and exposed, with drops on both sides. In strong wind, rain or fog, do not do it.

The James Bond connection

Kalsoy was one of the locations for “No Time to Die” (2021). Near the lighthouse there is a symbolic gravestone dedicated to James Bond, which has become another stop on the hike.
